Supporting NC Parents, Families and Educators of children and youth with Deaf-blindness

PEER Parent to Parent

The North Carolina Deaf-Blind Project is pleased to announce a new opportunity for families called PEER:  Parent Expertise and Experience Resource.

We know that sharing what you have learned through parenting a child with deaf-blindness can be extremely helpful to another family experiencing similar issues.  We also know that there are less than 300 families of children in North Carolina who are identified as having deaf-blindness, many of whom do not know or live close to another parent.

While the PEER program is not a formal support program, it will provide a more coordinated way for sharing parent expertise, experiences, tips and strategies of “what works” with another parent or family.  We will create and maintain a PEER list containing information from family members who are willing to share their knowledge and experience with other families.   Upon request, a NC Deaf-Blind Project Family Specialist will connect a PEER volunteer to another parent/family.  All PEER volunteers will be provided with training and support.

If you or a family member are interested in helping others through PEER, please go to the following link below to complete the survey to identify areas of expertise and experiences you have to share. share-knowledge
