2022 Family Leadership Summit: Ready, Set, LEAD!

The Exceptional Children's Assistance Center (ECAC) is excited to host our second Family Leadership Summit on June 3rd & 4th, 2022 at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh.  The title of this year's summit is "Ready, Set, LEAD! Leadership • Empowerment • Advocacy • Development".   Everyone has leadership skills.  This summit supports the development of these skills for leaders working on the individual level to the national level.  If you are a family member of a child or youth with a disability, ages birth-26, and want to learn more leadership skills, this summit is for you!  We offer sessions on individual leadership skills, supporting other families, improving the systems that serve families and youth, and influencing policies through advocacy.  The audience will also include early childhood professionals who serve on their Local Interagency Coordinating Councils (LICCs) to support family engagement and leadership on LICCs!  Connect with other families, learn new content and work to create fair and equitable systems for all children and youth with disabilities.  For additional details and to submit a participant application, please click below.

To Mrs. Aimee Combs, I appreciate your continued advocacy alongside youth and young adults disabilities and for allowing me to have a place at the table. I am so thankful to have met everyone on staff, and your passion for what you all do is infectious.

When I connected with Mrs. Debra Pickens and reconnected with my friend and fellow advocate Billy Pickens, I had no clue what was ahead.  I had the honor of participating as a voice in the following events: The Duke Univ Health Equity Rounds, NCSU Family Leadership Summit, ECU Inclusion Summit and the Partners in Learning Conference, not to mention numerous YAT opportunities and events.

All of these opportunities and more have had a lasting impact on me and continue to set the standard in my relationships with other organizations as well. Thank you for investing in me, and the mission that I was called to fulfill through advocating, creating and serving our shared communities of disabilities.
