TOOL TIME TUESDAY – January 18, 2022 – Section 504

As schools and businesses reopen after honoring Martin Luther King’s legacy, we’ll explore the connection between civil rights and disability rights. Section 504 is a Federal law that prohibits disability discrimination by recipients of Federal financial assistance, including public schools. This anti-discrimination, civil rights statute ensures that the child with a disability has equal access to an education. We’ll focus on Section 504 and the protections it provides for students and young adults in public schools and universities. These protections apply to students with disabilities whether or not they are eligible for an IEP, so be sure to join us!
