ECAC is Hiring a Part-Time DeafBlind Family Engagement Coordinator!

POSITION:  Part-Time DeafBlind Family Engagement Coordinator

Join a fast-paced team in an informal and supportive environment that values diversity. Help families navigate the special education system and become their child’s best advocate. Responsibilities include providing accurate and timely information, training, and individual assistance to parents and professionals on special education services.  This position may qualify for remote working within the state of NC.

This is a grant-funded position.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Provide one-on-one support for families raising children on the DeafBlind Census

·        Presentations both electronically (webinar) and in person

·        Facilitate Person Centered Planning (PCP) Trainings

·        Attend IEP meetings with parents (if appropriate and approved by supervisor)

·        Serve on the DeafBlind Advisory Committee (Pending Approval)

·        Serve as member of the National Family Association for DeafBlindness

·        Work closely with both the NC Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHHS) and the NC Division of

·        Services for the Blind (DBS)

·        Work closely with the NC Department of Public Instruction (DPI)

·        East Carolina University – Technical Assistance for DeafBlindness 

TECHNOLOGY

·        Assist with the DeafBlind DPI website page

·        Add data into Salesforce within 48 hours of contact

·        Post frequently on DeafBlind Facebook page

FINANCIAL

·        Process expense reports

OTHER

·        Attend other meetings/trainings as required

·        Ability to lift, on occasion, up to 20 pounds

·        Other duties as requested by supervisor

EDUCATION

·        High School Diploma

EXPERIENCE

·        At least 3 years of experience with children who are deafblind

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

·        Knowledge of the special education system

·        Knowledge of parenting an individual with deafblindness

·        Experience in advocacy on behalf of families of children who are deafblind

·        Good communication skills including basic knowledge of sign language and/or braille

Hours: 20 hours per week

Hourly Rate: $19.00 - $20.00 depending on qualification and experience

Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
